Starter problem!!

I can not get the start to line up right or somthing. I am not for sure. What will happen is I will turn the key a few times and it will kinda make this grinding noise or w/e. How do I line the teeth up properly and get this thing started . I just got almost done with my long tube install and this is the one thing holding me back from starting it.

Re: Starter problem!!

well you shouldnt have an issue with the teeth lineing up really. Just get under there and turn the motor over alittle by hand then try it. Did you make 100% sure the surface between the starter and the block was clean? If there were any kind of trash between it, it might be misaligned. Try turning the motor by hand alittle then hit the key and see what happens.

Re: Starter problem!!

Ok well here is the update. If I ground together the two big bolts on the starter and hook up the battery it will start to crank all by itself. But yet it cranks normaly. But when it is not grounded together and I just try it with the ignition key it will sound like its grinding together or somthing like that. Or just click. So I am not sure if I have all my grounding set up right or not. If you guys have some pictures or advice it would be really helpfull.
