Starter Options
I know that I've seen lots of information on this in the past, but I did a search and couldn't find what I was looking for.
I have Grotyohann long tube headers (they've been on for a couple of years now) and even though the stock starter went back on OK it is right up against the headers.
I am having a very slight vibration (almost like a buzzing) belt in the gear shifter (M6), always around 2700 RPM no matter what gear I am in. I don't know if it could be the starte clearance issue or not but don't know what else to try so I want to get a different starter to give me more room.
So what are my options?
I know there is the LT4 which is smaller. I also remember reading about another aftermarket starte that allowed you to rotate the position of the starter allowing more clearance. What starter is this, and is it also smaller than the stock one.
What would be my best choice?

The CVR ProTorque starter allows you to rotate it. Very good starter, and used to be in the JEG's catalog for $150.... but I don't see it in there any more.

I also found this one. Do you know which one you have, one is 1.9 HP and the other is 3.0 HP.

I'm going to have my starter replaced, now that I'm going to have my engine down soon. I too, have the Groty headers on my 96 Z28, and I can tell you, that the clearance to remove the starter without undoing the headers, is pretty tough. Most likely, I'll go with the CVR, at worst, I'll consider the LT4, which I hear is also pretty good.
It's the original starter, so it's time to replace it.

Will this one fit the LT1?
I'm assuming it would. It says 153 tooth flywheel.

I don't think you can beat that price for a brand new starter, plus it says it's compact for more header clearance.

Man, I'm pissed, my CVR 5323 came in last Friday and I just went out to install it and I don't see anyway that it is going to work.
Firts off, though it is tight I can get the stock starter on and off without removeing my headers. There is no way I could get this thing in there with the headers on.
So I tried removing the rectangular plate from the end of the starter to see if I could possibly get everything up in there and put it back together. Well for one, I still can't even get the body of the starter up there. Second, I put the rectangular plate up against the block and with the outside bolt in place the other end of the plate hits the lip of the oil pan so it won't go flush against the block.
Do I have the right starter? The box sais #5323, but the CVR sticker on the starter has the number 30270.
