SS/WS-6 faster when cold outside
SS/WS-6 faster when cold outside
Have any of you SS/WS-6 guys noticed more power when it's cold outside? I only drive my SS about 1500 miles a year. I had to run to town tonite and decided to drive it since it's been about a month since it's been driven. It has started getting pretty chilly hear at night. Anyway, the car runs like a raped ape!(it's always been fast) I guess this would prove that the ram air on our cars really does work and works quite well IMO.

The reason your car runs better in cold temps is because the oxygen in the air is more dense. Wich makes for more o2 in the cilinders = more power
or so I have been told

Yup, thats exactly it. The denser the air, the more of it you get in, the more you get in, the more power.
I think for our cars I've heard it's something like for every 10 degrees colder you can make the air being taken in, you gain 5hp... not 100% sure on that one though, but thats just what I've heard.

Thought you guys might find this interesting and on topic. Two of my friends have f-bodies. One has a 93 Camaro, the other has a 99 Formula. In July they raced on a test & tune night, the LT1 ran 13.56 and the LS1 ran 13.38, averages. Anyway, they went again this month, the 93 ran 13.35 and the 99 ran 13.57, again averages. The only difference was the air temp was about 15-20 degrees colder than in July. On my car, I noticed that the OBD1 seems to work better with colder air than the OBD2 did. Anyways, like I said, it was just interesting.
