Squealing at high RPMs could easily be belt slippage. Pretty common.

you could try spraying the belt down with water, see if that makes it worse....if it does thats probably the problem

Thanx to everyone that helped out, took my baby to Chevy and come to find out the previous owner put the cheapest belt on the market on the car. I personally don't like to hear the belt squealing over the nice sounding motor and exhaust so word to the wise don't be cheap with your lt1/ ls1 camaro. The car sounds great now.

Is it the correct length? Is the tensioner pulley in the correct operating range? If you look carefully at the tensioner pulley base (the part that contains the springs that provides the tension), there is a pointer and the acceptable position range for the pointer is marked. If the pointer isn't within the correct operating range, the belt isn't the right length.

A lot of people get good results with the Goodyear Gatorback belt.

Sounds like a belt or tensioner to me.

It's a 3.4 V6.

I can hear a small intermittant squeal with the belt off, but I have no idea what it could be....he is going to have to isolate the sound with the mechanic's stethoscope.

Fred-this is LT1 engine tech only, right?. Maybe this should be moved to a V6 section for better responses.

You made a couple of mistakes when you posted this. First, this forum is only for the LT1 V8 engine. Second, you highjacked someone elses thread, throwing it into confusion.

I'm going to suggest that you post this on the correct forum. All other posts relative to your misplaced post will be deleted.
