Question what is this part and how do you repair it

i have a 93 z28 and i was wondering if anyone could tell me what this dose if i need it and how to repair it. the one i have on now is leaking only when i turn my car on. when its on it drips from the end were the wire comes out. it connects to the oil pressure system im guessing it has something to do with the oil pressure sensor. also when my car is on my oil pressure is reading wayy above 80 Name: 100_2217.jpg

Find where exactly the leak is coming from?

If it's the oil pressure sensor (which that picture shows is on your car being a 93) causing the oil leak, I'd take it out and see if the senor is bad or broken physically and check the threads.

Beyond that I don't know, I'm still learning a lot about engines and cars

Whoops I see you already took it off...Did the sensor look bad to you? Maybe a bad seal?

i'm not familiar with the 93 oil pressure sending unit..
i do know that its postion is relative to the standard oil pressure port on nearly all smallblocks..

i would say its your oil pressure sending unit, and it probably needs replacing..

also for a heads up.. check the wires connected to it for deterioration, oil will deteriorate the insulation over time....

Yes, if continuity is lost to the sensor, the gauge pegs.

What is the best way to remove the unit. I don't see any clean angle to get in there.

I don't have the oil pressure sensor in that location (only 93 and early 94), but I believe there is a 90-deg elbow that screws into the block, with the threads facing forward, and then the oil pressure sensor screws into that. This is what turns up in a parts search for a 93-early 94 LT1 sensor. Appears that you would use a deep socket of the correct size to remove it:
