Spohn Adjustable Torque Arm
Spohn Adjustable Torque Arm
I can get a Spohn adjustable torque arm for $300 (price includes installation). A local shop has had one laying around for a while and wants to get rid of it. Good deal? I've only been able to find one or two other shops selling them and they'e both around $400.
Considering how they start at $355 with no options (driveshaft loop, etc.), I'd say it's a pretty darn good deal if the peice is in good condition, which I assume it is. I have one and so far it's been top notch.
CAUTION!!!!
There are two different designs for the Spohn torque arm. The early version is identified by a "slider" joint on the single front tube that attaches to the front mounting point. The slider will have a rubber bellows on it, about 6" long. This model is less desireable than the later model. A few of the very early design arms were broken off where the slider tube met the two rear tubes. More of a problem on high HP cars, but did break on a few near stockers. The design was eventually revised to add a chrome moly insert into the slider tube. I had one of those, and ran at about 625HP/1.6 60-ft times, both with an M6 and with the TH400 - no problems. But you need to be aware that not all "early" designs will have the chrome moly tube.
EARLY (OLD) DESIGN
The later version cojmpletely eliminated the "slider" and uses a front "link" on the mounting arm to accomodate changes in length. I have upgraded to one of those.
I would say the "early" arms are only worth about 50% of original value, and then ONLY if they have the chrome moly insert.
LATE (NEW) DESIGN
Ignore the drive shaft loop - that is custom.
