Spark Plugs- Which are the best LT1 M6

What do you guys recommend for spark plugs. There is a lot if claims out there and I'm just trying to cut through the BS. I have a 95 Z28 M6 and the motor is stock but has headers and SLP cold air intake.

I'm pretty happy with my NGK TR-55's in my bolt-on M6 car.

You shouldn't have too much trouble finding a spark plug that will work well for you. Just make sure to gap them appropriately. Biggest issue you will have is burning plug wires, or atleast from my experiences.

I was planing on going with MSD 8.5 or 10.2 wires and Street fighter coil. Which wires did you end up with?

If you are using the stock routing, the 10.2's aren't going to fit. The 8.5's will be a tight squeeze. Over-the-top will be easier with diameters that large. Stock 7mm AC Delco wires work fine on a stock engine. The 8.5's are excellent wires, but probably overkill. 10.2's are totally unnecessary.

Re: Spark Plugs- Which are the best LT1 M6

Many people have made the argument that using a hotter coil than stock can cause premature rotor meltdown in the optispark.

Another argument that has been proven is that on an otherwise stock application there is absolutely no benefit to upgrading the coil.

Considering those two points don't bother changing the coil as may only cause more harm than good.

All very good points to consider. Thanks for the input. What about the plugs? Would you recommend staying with the AC Delco's or something else?

I'd go with the NGK's recommended above, iridium version. My stock AC Delcos kept losing the platinum pucks, producing huge gaps and eventually misfiring. I went with the NGK TR6 because I was going to run nitrous. But that was 15 years ago. Maybe the AC Delcos have improved.

I run the NGK TR6s in my current engine but I ran TR55s (copper version) for 8 years when I was bolt-on/mild cammed. They ran great.

Whatever you do don't buy into gimmick plugs. Nothing more than a complete waste of money.

One last question for you guys. What do you recommend for cap and rotor? After searching around on the form, it seem like there's nothing conclusive.

Assuming the cap and rotor is the problem I would elect AC Delco. I've had problems with MSD and parts-store cap and rotors.

Re: Spark Plugs- Which are the best LT1 M6

I have a hatred for the OLD bosch anything +2+4 crap, but I had a guy come into my autoshop that worked for Bosch and we started talking about how terrible the old plugs were. He told me they garbage canned that plug and started from scratch with these new iridium plugs they have out! He gave me a set for the TA and they run great!

BTW MSD cap and rotor on a GM opti (no problems)

I don't have problems, my water pump gaskets were leaking so i figured since i was pulling that off i would just go ahead and do a tune-up.

I like NGK TR55's
Stock wires(especially if you use after market wires)I still ran stock coil wire with them.
Change the coil wire frequently
Stock coil.Stock coil.Stock coil.
I would stay GM with anything on a F-body.Only because I wasted soo much money and time on all the after market crap.My o2.Hope this helps somebody on a stock system.
