OTV Spark Plug Wire Recommendations
OTV Spark Plug Wire Recommendations
I've been searching for about 2 weeks now for OTV wires for my LT1. So far every set I've bought I've had to return for various reasons, like being too short, wrong plug ends, etc. Can anybody recommend some that are good quality and will fit properly? My max range is about $80-90.
Re: OTV Spark Plug Wire Recommendations
If that's your price range you won't be getting new OTVC wires.
Personally though OTVC wires are more of a pain in the *** than anything else. They make cleaning the valve covers impossible, can actually burn WORSE than OEM routing, and generally look tacky and make the engine bay look too busy.
After a year of having them you'll see what I mean.
Conventionally routed stock wiring is the best to prevent burning.

How do they result in more frequent burning? It would seem that stock routed wires can bounce around more and land on the headers, whereas these will be secured to the valve covers and unable to move.
As for cleaning, I have the MadeForYou clamps, so it just a matter of a hex bolt each to move them out if the way.
I went ahead and ordered the $135 MSD kit, so yeah I jumped my price a bit.

Re: OTV Spark Plug Wire Recommendations
Stock routed wires have looms and brackets to physically keep them away from the hot manifolds. They hug the block and keep the wires further away from the headers than OTVC wires. Eventually zip ties will heat up, cool, heat up, cool, and eventually fall off. Not to mention to keep the wire signal clean wires should not touch eachother. I understand in a perfect world this may not be possible but OTVC wires make this much more difficult.
A "matter of removing a hex bolt" might seem easy to you but that's eight bolts you have to remove just to wipe down the valve cover. And because you have to remove those bolts every time you'll be less likely to keep it clean more regularly so in turn it will begin to look worse. Just saying.
I went through two sets in 3 years and said screw it. There's a reason stock cars don't burn wires even after 19 years because the factory routed them properly.
But hey, it's your car. I'm just offering up my experiences, and my experience says OTVC sucks.
