Solid Pinion Spacer Worth It for Gear Install?

Im about to install motive 4.10's in my M6, and was wondering if the solid pinion spacer is needed. Im going to use the ratech complete installation kit, and had not even heard of the solid pinion spacer untill reading some back posts. Just wanting some opinions on if its needed and what its main purpose is.
Thanks
Brandon

I believe it's main function is to help eliminate pinion bearing preload changes due to drivetrain shock loads (like hard launches).
