Angry So who else has rust on their Jet-Hot coated headers?

I put my Jet-Hot coated Hooker LTs on in January of 2002. Within four months they had signs of rust on the collectors. It wasn't to bad but for what I paid I didn't expect any rusting. So over the next year it has got progressively worse. Now its to the point where the whole collector is covered with rust . It looks like crap. The top of the headeres look fine but thats beyond the point. I know that they would recoat the headers if I brought it to their attentiion but they would probably just rust again . I'm not willing to go through another PITA header install if they are going to look the same in a year. So who else has this problem? Did you get them recoated? Did they rust again? Who has a quality coating that won't rust. Let me hear your opinions.

It's not rust.....its dirt. IF the top of the header is clean and looks good, the brown you're seeing is dirt that has baked onto the finish. Happens all the time. This also happens to the exhaust pipe next to the driveshaft...it picks up alot of dust, dirty rain water etc.....

That makes sense , if it was going to bake off the coating it seems it would do it closer to the block

Then how come my y-pipe doesn't look the same? Its right behind the headers so the heat would be close to the same. My y-pipe has no sign of rust or what you are saying looks like rust. I'm still convinced its rust.

Well Ive been pretty unhappy with my Jet Hots, they started rusting 3 months after I put them on in the same spot as yours, now they are completely covered in rust over the collectors, sure glad I spent all that extra money I posted this some time back, I tryed finding it but couldn't, it was 4-5 pages long of people with the same response. Had I known they wuld rust I wouldn't have had them coated. I was told by them a lifetime gaurantee, now they tell me its 3 years, others were told the same thing. It would'nt be such a big deal if the install wasn't so hard, and also the fact you must spend 40-50 bucks to have them sent over to be recoated--not worth it if they're gonna rust again. Some have had zero problems with running through salty winter weather , so maybe bad sets slip by them that need recoating.

That sucks. Your in the same boat as me then. I definitely wouldn't of spent the extra money if I knew they were going to rust. I would settle for just my money back because I do not want to go through another header install just to end up where I'm at today. Maybe in the future I would take them off and go some where else for coating but not Jet-Hot. And then there is the issue of lifetime gaurantee vs 3 years. Big difference there . So anyway I guess I'll just deal with it for now. Thanks for your response.

I had rust all over mine after 9 months and the car was rarely ever driven in the rain and never in the snow. I complained to Jet Hot and I had mine recoated free of charge. I would be a big PITA if you had to take the headers out all over again but mine were coming out anyway so it worked out good.

Call Jet Hot and complain...

So how do they look after getting recoated? Are they rusting again? IF I had confindence that they wouldn't rust on me again and Jet-Hot paid for everything even shipping I would think about ripping them out and recoating them. But then my cars down for over a week and I have to spend all that time taking them out and putting them in . If you could let me know how they look and if there is any rust after recoating i would appreciate it 96z. Thanks

Jet-Hot did used to have a lifetime warranty. I looked into it about three years ago when I was having my Macs coated and that what I was quoted. I ended going with www.pbmotorsports.com because of the better quality, finish and customer service, but I'd be raising hell if I had actually had Jet-Hot do the coating and they flipped the script and told me the warranty was only 3 years. That's the old bait-and-switch, and it's illegal. Maybe a class-action law suit is in order.

ShelbyZ28: the headers came back beautiful! No rust, no imperfections, etc. It is a big PITA but worth it since there is a 3 year warrenty. I havent run them yet this year but I have feeling the same thing will happen again this year with the rust etc....I guess we'll have to see.

this sucks to hear Shelby. I was ordering mine next Monday 21st and found your post this morning. I cut n pasted this entire post to Chris @ JetHot to see what the deal is. Has he or anyone talked to you whether from a technical or warranty standpoint? I found another company that does the same type coating but can't find my link they are competitve with JetHot's cost and warranty.

Thanks for the info. Good luck with the coating.

If your asking if I have been contacted by JetHot about this issue no I haven't. I'm sure they would recoat my headers if I brought this to their attention. I have no doubt that they have good customer service. But its the quality of their product that I'm worried about. This is not an isolated incident from what I can see. If I get them recoated and they rust again in a year why should I waste my time with another header install? I would only consider it if they paid for everything. Then there is the issue of lifetime gaurantee vs the 3 year gaurantee which they now have. So right now I don't know what I'm going to do. I believe this is the link of the competitor you are looking for www.pbmotorsports.com . I'm also looking into him as an alternative.
