Where did it say to remove the opti and then remove the cap?????

The goal was to leave the opti on the engine and see where the rotor was pointing. This eliminates a misaligned rotor as the cause of your problem.

You still haven't answered if the engine ran prior to you changing the opti.

If you use the damage wire and it misfires, you won't know for sure what the cause of the rough running will be.

Based on what you have done to this point and the questions you ask, this job is best left to a repair shop. I'm out of here.

Are you actually reading the responses?

I think you are frustrating most of the people who are trying to help you, by not reading carefully.

There is nothing like a case of frostbite to re-inforce the lesson learned

Keep trying and at the same time listen to Shoebox and Injuneer. These guys know their stuff and are trying to help.

I would pull the timing cover off and back the bolts out. You will have to loosen the front oil pan bolts and then pull the cover (trying not to tear the oil pan gasket). I'm sure you can find a write-up on someone's website, as it has been a standard practice for changing cams for years.
