SLP headers and EGR tube

can anyone that has made their own EGR tube extension for 94-95 SLP headers describe how they went about doing that? There is no way I'm going to be able to get the stock one to fit without destroying it, and I'm not really up for that...and SLP wants like $40 for their piece, which there is no way I'm paying. I'm not really interested in deleting the EGR yet either...

Thanks!

Yes, I did that.

I carefully elongated my oem 97 egr tube. It wasn't easy, but I applied pressure to the sides of the tube with vise grips but cover the tube with a towel to avoid gouging it. The tube will get longer. If it sounds a ltttle ghetto, it is. However, I was able to lengthen it enough to reach and even clear some taller cast alum valve covers.

If you want to save a few bucks this will work. I also used a regular exhaust type gasket on the header and applied some high temp sealant and have it held together with ARP bolt and nut. No leaks after repeated disassemblies/reassemblies over almost 6 years!

maybe yours is designed a bit differently than mine..? On mine the plug in the headers is basically a two bolt flange, and the EGR tube is held on by a one bolt flange...will it still seal like that?

I'm gonna give that vise grip trick a shot...hell all I could do wrong is break it right?

Yes, mine is designed the same way. I wish I could lay my hands on an EGR tube with the double bolt flange for the header fitting, but I haven't bumped into any locally. Mine has sealed with one bolt and it is a bear to reach.

Just use care when elongating the tube or you may split it!

Mine runs over the valve cover and straight to the back of the manifold and not behind it.

Hint: when bolting it to the header first remove the EGR tube from the back of the manifold. I found it to be much easier to get it positioned and bolted up.

ok well, I stretched it out a bit, and got it to fit, now I just gotta get it to seal...I think I'm gonna have to get a new bolt and throw some silicone around the thing ...i was quite a PITA to fit, but it works

WHen you try to install it attach the fitting to the header first. If you attach the manifold end first it will make it very difficult to do the header fitting. I used a longer ARP bolt and stainless nut so that it won't rust and will easily loosen in the future.
