Slow Priming Fuel Pump

My 94 Z has 161k miles on it. It takes a couple of tries to start. Apparently the fuel pump takes a couple of tries to get pressure. A replacement is $80.

advice and comments appreciated

Re: Slow Priming Fuel Pump

Could be a faulty check valve in the fuel pump. Check the fuel pressure - see what pressure it primes to, and how fast the pressure drops off. Will it start faster if you cycle the key a few times before you turn it to "start"?

All the more reason to verify pressure with a test gauge.

Re: Slow Priming Fuel Pump

You have to determine how fast the pressure bleeds down. If it does bleed down rapidly, could be due to:

-faulty check valve in pump
-leaking fuel pressure regulator
-leaking injectors
-leaking fuel lines, including the on in the tank
