You can look into the jet-hot coated single cat MAC's for $561. That includes the coated headers and coated Y-pipe. That is, if you don't need to pass emmisions.

Are you saying that you cant pass emissions with Mac shorty's?
I wasnt aware of that.

What exactly do you base this opinion on?

My MAC headers DO pass emissions, and the car runs 12.0 with the A.I.R. tubes and EGR still in place.

I'm not aware of what all goes into emmisions testing. I don't have it in Michigan, so I was just being cautious when I recommended the MAC's

I'm getting the MAC midlengths that are Jet-Hot Coated.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON SHORTIES, THEY ARE ONLY GOOD FOR ABOUT 10HP. GET SOME HOOKER LONGTUBES AND YOU WILL GET AT LEAST 25-30RWHP

Yes, Longtubes make more HP, but shorties are not worth just 10 HP. The '94-'95 style "midlength" shorties put out more. People see 30 rwhp gains from a set of shorties and a cat back. Knowing that a cat-back is only good for 10 hp max, well you do the math.

There are reasons people may not want to run LT's. I could run LT's if I wanted to. We have no emmisions here. I want shorties because they don't hang as low and I have no custom exhaust work that is needed. It's also much cheaper, install is easier, and on some of the shorties the plug access is awesome.

Easy on the OPINION stuff here. The FACT is mid length headers make MORE top end HP. Doesn't anyone else check dyno comparisons?
My MAC mid lengths were a pretty good "waste of money". It's nice to know I could've spent more money and went slower.

i am still not sold on the long tubes being soooooo much better than shorties. the reason im running the slp shorties still is cause people say they suck, but my trap speeds and et (dispite the suckash 60 ft time) tend to prove that wrong

Sure... Longtubes may slightly boost the midrange in some engines, but after that, the exhaust tuning effects of the longtubes fall off. It all depends on the combonation, one type is not better than the other for all setups.

I like my slp shorties even tho my times at the track suck. I ran a best of 8.916 @ 80mph . I did have 2 severe exhaust leaks and 4 oil saturated and burnt plug wires (leaking valve cover) . I got all that fixed now and the car feels a lil better I hope my times come down next season . Also gonna invest in some drag radials , some tuning finally !!! , and lca relocators (my car is dropped) hopefully they will fix my wheel hop problem . This car has potential just something is holding it back , I think I may have a clogged cat as I keep getting a 403 (bank 2 inefficiency) . Autotapped the car and it also seems to be running rich at idle and kinda lean at WOT my friend says . Any ideas ????

First of all the installing was a pita... The bolts are so close to the header pipes you cant even fit a wrench on it, good thing stage 8 bolts had the allen screws in the middle (which was still a pita).

Second I felt NO difference in power.. the car actually sounded more quiet than what it was.

Track results im not sure because I did the PCM4Less tuning at the same time. When i put the pcm in my car i actually FELT the difference. When i went to the track i dropped 2 tenths.. and frankly i think the tuning had to do with the most part of that.

Eventually I want long tubes, but the whole idea of jacking up the motor isnt my thing... plus i really dont have time as this is my only mode of transportation.

My 2¢

Easy on the misinformation here.

For the 10,000,000,000th time:

Midlength headers should "theoretically" make more top end power than longtubes, however any advantage you have here is completely and utterly cancelled out by the 1 5/8" primary tube diameter when you are talking about top end. Not to mention these engines don't begin to rev high enough to see real benefits from a short tube header. These aren't top fuel engines.

EDIT: Yes I realize SLP Shorties a 1 3/4" as are AS&M Midlengths. But we are talking about MACs here. And before you come up with a smart comeback about your ET and Trap, keep in mind it probably has something to do with the fact that you have "race ported" heads and a cam.
