Shorty Headers...what kind of gains?

What gains would I see with a pair of uncoated shorty headers on a pretty much stock lt1. Also how much will it change the exhaust note? Thanks Cory

If your looking at the BBK's, I would look towards the Hookers or Jet Hots. I kicked myself in the butt when I found out I could have spent about $150 or so more for long tubes. I liked the shorties but then I never really got a chance to get long tubes. If you're going to go with headers of any kind save up some money and get the coated ones. They look better, they last longer, and you can honestly put your hand on them after 10-15 minutes after shutting down the engine. But if you live in an emissions type enviroment then your more than likely going to have to go with the shorties unless you dont mind pulling them off every so often.

I picked up .35 sec corrected between two runs with identical 60' times. That was on SLP headers AND a catback. With a 3.2 MPH gain you can bet thats darn near close to 30 HP for the whole system, headers being the most critical part.

There are clips in my sig, and more on the video page of my site.

The Single cat style headers will give you a better gain than the dual cat shorties. YOu may want to consider converting to a single cat setup if you emmisions allow.

I pickec up a little mid and high rpm power. The main difference was that the power didn't drop off at high rpms the way it did with manifolds.
But I would not buy uncoated headers.

they defiently make the tone sound alot cleaner and more mean, that is unless you open up the cut out and let the headers with no cat ROAR! =0p

I gained .5 second and 4.5 mph w/ Hooker shorties, and a cutout where the cat was! I can stop stock LS1's and walk on stock SS's and WS6's. And that's with the stuff in the sig!! The headers made a HUGE difference!!!

Thanks man! I don't know what is up with this car. It's a FREAK!!! Stock it ran 8.9 @ 81.5 mph (never ran it in the 1/4 stock). It responded VERY to the mods I have. Suck that I can't get any lower than a 2.1ish 60ft. time due to crappy tire and a bout GONE clutch. Anyways hopefully after the new clutch install, some DR's and a good launch maybe I'll break into the 12's w/ stock interals (that's my goal anyways)!

It's like the others have said, notice mid-high rpms significantly. My BBK ceramic shorties made my car pull 400rpms sooner on a dyno shootout with 2 other LT1's with all same mods except headers but mine fell off 400rpms sooner also. They work for me on a stock internals, all bolt on LT1 but depends on what you want to do later, they may choke you down the road. I'm not doing internals so they work just fine. Also, with 3/8flanges and copper header gaskets, I NEVER have to retighten bolts which is nice.

I used some 1 3/4 mid length RK Sport headers and I gained 5 mph with these headers and gutting/sleeving the cat on a stock shortblock.

Following mods.....Borla cat back, open plate, RK Sport Headers,Moroso CAI,HPP Hypercrap programming, gutted cat,SVO 24# injectors

13.01@109

Dynoed 298 RWHP back in the day.

Before the headers and gutted cat, I was running 13.50s@ 104

13.81@102 bone stock
