Shielding power wire from interference (radio)?
Shielding power wire from interference (radio)?
I relocated my battery to the rear. The power cable comes right over the speaker wires which creates the most awful "whirring" sound you've ever heard.
Is there anything I can shield the wire with?
TIA,
Ryan

u mean the main power wire from ur battery is running over the speaker wires ? is these after market speakers ? where at are these wires crossing ? if possiable croos the wires at 90 degress this will help maybe buy some filters at local auto parts store or radio shack . Or re route some wires. the noise is called alternator noise does the noises pitch change as u accelrated ?
i dont know of any shielding material u can buy try some tin foil i might help give it a try .

Yeah, it is alternator noise (pitch change with revs).
Stock speaker wires.
I was going to try some aluminum tape, but wanted to see if anyone else had any bright ideas
.
thanks,

The only re-routing I could do would be to get the power wire out of the cabin before the rear seat.
The power wire comes from the sparetire well over the pass side wheelwell. It makes a 90* turn in front of the rear seat and runs to the driveshaft tunnel, then up to the pass footwell where it exits the car (drilled a hole).
Is there any way to shield it?
