Question SES light, egr valve question

I have an SES light, i took it to auto zone and it showed egr valve. i also have a active recall on my car for the air pump injector or something. could this cause my egr to malfunction? i had the egr replaced once after i bought the car, it was still under warranty. is it an expensive repair?

The EGR and AIR systems are independant of each other. An AIR problem iwll not cause an EGR "code". There are a couple of trouble codes for the EGR - which one did AutoZone get? Did they give you the exact number? Often they give you a "generic" description of what the code means, according to their scanner, and the generic codes are sometime not an accurate description of the problem.

The EGR system could set a code for a faulty EGR solenoid, or another code for a faulty EGR valve. The one for the valve is fairly common in cars with larger exhaust systems and reduced back pressure.

If you need a new EGR valve, I think you can get one for about $35 from the discount guys like Dal or Jason Cromer, and you can change it out yourself. A dealer will charge you $65 for the valve and maybe $75 to install it, and maybe another $75 for "diagnosing" the problem with his scanner.

Get the EXACT code, in the format Pxxxx.

It's not all that hard. You just have to feel around a little. Once the nuts are broken loose, they will easily spin off. However, it is a little easier if you move some things out of the way.

Cool

there is also a campaign on the EGR valve if it has deteriorated a dealer will replace it no charge; of it was already replaced GM will reimburse it. it is not an official recall. The AIR unit is a recall and will be repaired at no charge. I don't have the GM post cards available but if you fill in prompts at www.alldata.com you should get the correct #'s

good luck

PS

I'll betcha a nickel it's a P0400
