Service Engine Soon Light

I put Hooker long tube headers on my 97 Z28 LT1 awhile back and my service engine soon light has been on ever since. My buddy hooked a scanner up to my car and it said that the problem was the secondary air. What can I do to get my service engine to turn off. Is there a part i can by or something?

What was the exact code? That will allow us to understand exactly what part of the AIR system has a problem, and what needs to be done to fix it.

Out of curiosity, do your new headers have AIR provisions, and did you hook up the AIR system? If you deleted the AIR system, you will need to have the code programmed out of the PCM.

I deleted the AIR system. The scanner didnt give a code number it just said Secondary air injection system. How do i get the code programed out of the PCM. Do i have to down load a tune from a programmer cus all I have is a hypertech programmer and that wont do it?

Hypertech won't do it. Look for the links to pcmforless.com and MadZ28.com for mail order tunes. You can send them your PCM, or they can send you a file to download.

Deleting the code from the PCM, if done the correct way, will not cause the PCM to show the "system not ready" flag when they hook the computer up for the emissions check. And I'm not aware of any emissions drive cycle that checks the emissions from a cold start, which is the only time the AIR system is used.
