Service Engine Soon Light

I've been having a problem with my 97 trans am ws-6 vert. When push the car a bit i the service engine soon light comes on. I took it to a dealer to check the computer and a code for the catylitic converters went off. I was wondering if you guys think its the actual catylitic or if it would just be an O2 sensor. I think the error code that read in the computer was 141, but im not postive.

P0141 = Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) heater circuit Bank 1 Sensor 2

That would be the "after-cat" sensor, and its definitely a sensor problem, not a cat problem. You could switch the two after-cat sensors side-to-side... if the code stays on Bank 1 (drivers side), its a wiring problem. If it follows the sensor to bht oehter side, its a sensor problem.

All this assumes you remembered the code correctly.

Correct Code

The code is actually 0420 Bank1 Catalyst efficiency. Is this the O2 sensors that are before the cats?

141??? 420????

P0420 is low catalyst efficiency. Either the driver's side cat is "dead" or the after-cat O2 sensor on that side has a problem. Switch the after-cat sensors side-to-side to figure out which, as noted in the post above.
