Nope, order a cable for 89 bucks or build your own for 10, if you have a laptop or borrow one download data master and get a crack from someone and you can see everything going on with the car, not to mention you will be able to tune your own pcm.

I like it because you can mount it right in the center AC vent. Not only does it look good the info is always at your fingertips, no need to have a laptop around all the time.

I make good use of my Scanmaster. A laptop with a scam tool like Diacom gives you much more information but how often do you have it connected? The Scanmaster is always running to give you feedback on knock, intake temperatures, fault codes, O2 movement, etc. I love mine! I also have mine mounted in the eyebrow vent right under my boost gauge.

I like the scanmaster because it right in my ac vent. I dont have to look down at the labtop to see whats going on.

I just ordered mine this morning, along with some new plugs (THAT is gonna be fun ) I'll update when I get it installed.

The reason i didnt get the datamaster, is i dont have 2-300 to spend on a laptop, 50 to spend on a program, and another 90 to spend on a cable. And I want real time data, not having to look over at a laptop to see what my engine is doing at 70mph on the highway or a triple digit highway blast.

What about using the scan master to check timing and fuel instead of datamaster(I don't have a laptop) and changing the tune with a home computer? How much info is available with a scan master?
Thanks,
Kory

The Scanmaster shows you, real time, each of the values the PCM sees, one at a time. The only thing it stores is your lowest O2 value and highest knock value if you go into WOT. You can't reprogram your car with it, it's a monitoring device.

I know that. I have tunercat and a cable, but no laptop. will the scan master be usefull for logging? As opposed to a laptop and datamaster. I can make changes with the home computer.

if you're actually looking to do tuning, dont get a scanmaster, it will do nothing but waste your money. Just buy tunercat and get freescan/datamaster and log your runs. Scanmaster will just be able to tell you on the fly what is going on as far as what your PCM is recieving from its sensors. Nothing more. Datamaster does the same thing and more, but it doesnt have the placement option of a scanmaster, and you have to have a laptop/AKM cable to use it.

You don't need the $90 AKM cable. Mastach makes a cable for half that, it isnt as pretty, but serves the same purpose.

Can you tune using datamaster or do you need tunercat?

TTS Datamaster is only a 'monitoring' program. You'll need something like Tunercat or LT1 Edit to do actual tuning.
