Re: searching for the best spark plug wires

I really have to still stick with either MagnaCores or ESP's wires. I figured its jsut wires and gave ESP a try. They are great. No arcing. And my car sits alot. All through the winter I dont drive it so it doesnt rot out from the salt. Usually this makes things arc like crazy from the built up moisture. I had tons of problems with stock, and stock style wires. I got these and havent had a problem yet.

Re: searching for the best spark plug wires

I have had about 5 different sets on mine over the past 7 years and the MSD is the best is my eyes. If you have arcing problems it is the way you are running them or assembling them if they are a custom fit.

Talyors that I had were the worst out of them since they seemed to dry out quickly and were also a pain since their opti kit is a different size than the wires that they sell you so you have to **** and moan to get them on.

The big boy NHRA guys run MSD so I cannot see why they would if they are bad.

Re: searching for the best spark plug wires

well, the msd's I had were pre-fab, so its nothing I did wrong. They arc from the boot end to the metal hex of the plug, on every damn cylinder. I called MSD, they said ground problem. So, I ran a wire from each head to the block, and then a wire from the block to the body. Didn't do a damn thing.
Then they told me it was the "corona effect." That means the plug glows. Trust me, I know the difference between a glow and a damn arc. So, their customer service wasn't the best either. Summit Racing was awesome, they replaced both sets and the crappier Taylors I had before that. I am seriously leaning towards those magnecors. If they arc, then I am throwing my car away.

Best of luck to you. Hope you find something that works. Mine are all custom lenght with some grease on them to seal them sincely from the crappy weather around here and no problems at all rain shine or snow.

I had MSDs and they burn very easily if near the headers. I had Taylors and they just start arcing for no reason. I have run a set of Accel 8.8 300+ wires for 3 years now with no problems at all.

Re: searching for the best spark plug wires

We use Taylor 10.4 on all our motors with excellent results. MSD's are great wires for the short term, but they break down pretty quicky. This is experiance based on hundreds of dyno hours and ignition scope results.

Ditto. Taylor and MSD boots burn and rot easily on the plug end. Accell 300+ will last longer around the tight spaces of LT1 engines and are priced very competitively. Don't skimp on plug wires they can make a huge difference in driveability.

Re: searching for the best spark plug wires

I guess I always thought that Accel was a cheap brand... so what you guys are saying is they are above taylors and MSD's? If that is the case, got the part number for LT1 with OTVC mounting? If they are good I may go that route!
Thanks again,
Cody

Re: searching for the best spark plug wires

I used the Accel 9000s for years with the stock mounting and they were good. The Accel 9000s have that coating on the spark plug boots and seem to hold up well to header heat. If you want to use the Accels in the OVC configuration get Accel 9000s in the universal fit with 90 deg boots and order the opti ends from either Taylor (who I know sells the opti ends separately) or from Accel and make your own set.

I still maintain that I've had no problems with the Taylors, but who knows.....

Re: searching for the best spark plug wires

good thinkin alan! It seems either someone loves taylor, or they hate them. Its wierd like that. I have heard you can get magnecors for a tad over a hundo too, would I be dumb to get accel over magnecors?

Re: searching for the best spark plug wires

I would buy Accel 300+ or 9000s over the standard Taylors or MSDs. I'm sure the the 10.4mm Taylors are good, as well as the Magnecors. I just refuse to pay over $100 for plug wires.
