Exclamation searching for the best spark plug wires

I have been researching this motor to the end of my wits, getting everything just nuts-on perfect. So, to that end, I figured I had better decide on some really good spark plug wires. Instead of me naming off some brands I have researched first, how about you post up what you are using and are having really good luck with. I want to be doing OTVC routing on an LT1, with pacesetter coated longtubes. I will still have the optispark distributor, and be using the "made for you products" OTVC wire looms. Lets keep the price under 200 bucks if possible, be it for production wires or custom sets, or even do it yourself sets. They must hold up to water, and high heat as this is a daily driver and I don't want a finky little baby when it comes to the elements! )
Thanks in advace, and I can't waite to see what names show up!

Get any brand that you think looks good in the engine compartment.
Sparkplug wires are all basically the same.

The one item I can offer is to get a universal set so you can custom fit the lengths to look the best. Otherwise, don't believe the hype about "resistance per foot" or any other crap.

Re: searching for the best spark plug wires

I've never had any issues on my old setup with MSDs, actually I tested the ohms and they were dead on, but going with my new build I can't use them, there are some issues with the lowe impedance and the LTCC I just ordered. So like you I've been searching whats new, been out of it 15 months. So today I decided to go with Magnecor 10mm race wires, they work great with Bob Baileys LTCC setup and no issues he told me. I overkilled from using the 8.5 Magnecor's, the 10mm was only 20 bucks more. Good lck

Re: searching for the best spark plug wires

Wires are far from being equal. The common impregnated fiber core wires will have conduction problems over time.

Low resistance per foot is not "hype". Remember that current is reduced as resistance goes up. As compression goes up, more power is required to spark the plugs. Common items like turbos, blowers or N2O put an increasing demand on spark.

Some folks tend to forget that you must pass through 2 wires to spark one plug. And every connection degrades the power even further. I think the finest wires out there are from Granatelli but I don't believe they manufacture OVC type.

My only advice to you is be sure you route them CAREFULLY and use zip ties if necessary to keep them away from hot items. I just got a PM from a guy who finally figured out after months that he burned wires. Seems it's a common mistake. For the wires I have, that would be a huge hole in the wallet to burn them.

I've been using MSD 8.5 mm Super Conductors for about 3 years now, OTVC, and zip tied in a couple of places, like Speedy says and have had zero problems with them.

Would you mind elaborating on that part?

Mind if I ask where you got them, and how much you paid for them?
That is the brand I have been looking into, but the 8.5 version.

Coil wire to the distributor cap and then from distributor cap through plug wire to the plug.

i read an article a while back where they tested lt1 performance parts and did a dyno after each mod to show the improvement. they put on a set of granatelli wires and gained 7hp and 18ft/lbs of torque. they were expensive though

Re: searching for the best spark plug wires

hmm, I am listening now. I always thought there were lots of different kinds of wires, now I am starting to understand that im right! I have had taylors and MSDs arc on me, so I am ready to step up to the big boys this time, and quit playing around.

Re: searching for the best spark plug wires

I just recieved my custom made Magnacor's from Victory Racing Engines last week. Went with the 10mm and the guy at Magnacor even made them to my specific lengths needed. All I had to do was put them on, and the craftsmenship in the is obvious. Very nice wire.

still have not heard prices of those magnecors. I guess if you have to ask you can't afford it.
