You also need the timing cover, cam gear, cam, opti harness and the vacuum harness.

You don't need a new cam, just a longer dowl pin inserted.

If you get the MSD, you can get the 93/94 opti with the vented cap and hoses. You might be able to just get the vented cap and rotor from them if you want to get a different opti as well. That way you can still use everything you're already using that was listed above.

That is wrong. A stock early cam does not have a large enough hole in the nose of it for the vented opti drive.

chief455, your search should have brought up this link. It is posted almost every time someone asks this question (which is quite often).

My apologies for the misinformation. You can not have the center of it bored out?

You would have to get the new diameter of the hole exactly right, since it serves as a pilot hole for the end of the Opti shaft, unlike the unvented set, that supports the end of the Opti driveshaft in the cam sprocket.

thanks guys - now I understand.

Got my homework to do though - the car has had a stroker job and aftermarket cam installed - perhaps I already have a 95-97 opti...

If not, odds are good that at least the cam is drilled to the larger size, saving some work for you..

Do you mean that MSD sells a 93/94 opti?

Or use reg 93-94 opti with the MSD 95-97 vented cap/rotor?

Depending what I find on my motor - I'd like to avoid the whole cover swap, cam mods etc and just get a good quality opti/cap/rotor on my motor.

You can do either of the options above, AFAIK. Depends on whether you want a whole new opti or just the vented cap. Their 93-94 optis come vented. Call and talk to them or any supporting vendor here. Several carry them.

Just run the MSD better opti, less parts to swap.

I haven't seen enough evidence to suggest that the MSD parts are any better than the OEM parts.

Dang - I'm still suprised they make the 93/94 style and don't advertise it in big letters!
I am a fan of MSD products - always been great.
I'll figure out which cam/cover I have and buy and MSD opti.
I already have a 6AL box so......

Have you not seen the optical sensor in those? Msd looks ALOT better built.
