seafoam?

I recently got done replacing my valve stem seals which were leaking pretty bad. I am thinking about getting some of that seafoam and sucking it up from the brak booster line which connects to the intake, to try and burnup all that crap which is prolly in the cylinders from the leaking oil so much plus its got 100k on it. Should I do this? Is it worth it? Which end of hte brake booster line do I use? Should I suck it up w/ the line which connects to the intake or the brake booster?

Re: seafoam?

Think about it...does the engine create the vacuum or does the brake booster?

Be advised that your O2 sensors may get fouled.

Re: seafoam?

If you "search", there are a few threads on this subject... I use it, but it was before I changed my O2 sensors.....

I use it all the time and it works great, when I took the heads off my 88k engine the pistons were very clean along with the chambers and ports.

I ve got brand new O2 sensors in there right now so hopefully they wont get foulded. From doing searches I understand that I should like pour the safoam into a cup and let the engine suck up like 1/3 of it, then dip the whole line into the cup to stall the motor, wait 15 minutes, and drive the **** out of it.

I use the stuff about once every 6 months, I usually get the stuff in the spray can and pull the intake piping off and open the throttle body blades and spray down the inside of the intake while its still warm. Get ready to see the car's exhaust look like a steam locomotive for about 5 minutes

Sea Foam definatly works ... I havent used it in my camaro yet, but it sure made my blazer blow out some nasty looking ****. There was literally chunks of carbon blown out of it.

Re: seafoam?

I put about 1/3-1/2 can in today, once I unplugged the break booster line the idel rpm shot up to around 2000. While I was pouring it in I did it liberly as it would very the idel speed while I did it, I then tried to stall it out by pouring a lot into it, but it wouldnt stall, so I just shut the car off (while I was pouring it in, some smoke did start to come out) I let it site for 15 minutes and turned it back on, and reved it to like 5grand, smoke came out and after about 10 seconds stopped.. Did I not do it right or was there just not a lot of carbon buildup in my engine?

Re: seafoam?

Im not sure if you can "do it wrong" but for what its worth, this is how I did it when I blew all the junk out of my Blazer ...

The motor was already hot from driving around, I unclamped my intake right past the MAF, and started to spray it in through there. I had my friend in the vehicle giving it gas to keep it running since as soon as you would add the seafoam, without the MAF hooked up it would sputter and die out. once we got a throttle position where I could add large portions of seafoam without it stalling, we kept it like that and added about 1/3 to half of the can. Then we shut the motor off immediately, I hooked everything back up, and I got in it and started it. I pretty much immediately ( Since it was already hot ) floored it and flew up the street while my friend laughed his *** off cause he said it looked like a deisel with all the black smoke ... It did make it run slightly better at idle, and it definatly blew some junk out of it cause where it was parked while i was dumping it in there was little chunks under the tail pipe of carbon/gross stuff but at any rate thats what worked for me ...

lol and so you know, is probly the worst thing you could do to that motor holding it at 5 grand in nuetral for 10 seconds. Thats so hard on a motor to do that in nuetral going to redline, than iif it is in gear ...

Think of it like riding a bicycle ... If your going up a big hill and the chain popped it kills your joints ... Its the same thing for the bearings and **** when you rev in nuetral to redline ... It was designed to do that under a load, not freely.

Re: seafoam?

You guys should all get arrested for using a weapon of ozone mass destruction!!

Hahaha This post brings me memories of chocked up residential neighbors.... My car fumed and blacke smoked so bad I had to turn it off before being called up on that Smoke Wall I created!!! Then I crancked her up and low and behold it got even worse!!

I was worried it I had blown something cause it wouldnt stop smoking and it went from hilarious to absolutelly worrysome to me. The fact that Used up the whole can may have been a Factor .

Ok guys I didnt hijack this thread I just wanted to add something. Long time ago I was experimenting with my ex g/fs honda car and I friggin decided to dump a whole gallon of Naptha in the gas tank... it was almost full but guess what ..... That Honda had the intake valves mounted on a remobable metal insert...and I was going to replace the seals cause it was already smoking bad.... When I pulled up all the intake valves... THEY WERE SO CLEAN you would swear the heads had been remanufactured.

Now that was like 10 years ago... I dont know if they still sell Naphta at the stores and I certainly would not used it in my z28 but...... hmmmm How about Dumping a whole two cans of Seafoam or similar solvent in the gas tank????? Am I being too....mental about this?

Just my two cents.

**Disclaimer.... even though my ex g/f's Honda Civic DX didnt suffer from any engine problems after that stunt I pulled on it... I did not stay long enough with her to find out if that engine blew up later on or what... so in you decide to go the naphta way... dont be blaming me for whatever opty/fuel/blown engine pistons you may encounter... I have never tested it on my own z28.
