Used Seafoam, now there is a ticking sound

Ok I just seafoamed my engine closely following the instructions given here . I did everything the site said to do, and the car sounded fine yesterday after I did it. Today I go to work and I hear this ticking sound coming from the engine bay, almost like valves tapping.

Anybody have this problem before? Anyone know what it could be?

For what it's worth I blew a head gasket the SAME day I used seafoam for the first time. my car first started ticking, and then started overheating/smoking.

Seafoam works fine... I suggest changing your oil.

Change your oil. Mine did the ticking too. I had 1/3 of seafoam bottle left, I dumped it in the oil and then it begam tickin. I was like dam now I have to adjust the rockers (Stock OEM). Didnt want to get black oil all over the Engine Bay so I did the oil change and the tickin went away.

i think most of you that have "problems" after sea foam forget to rag the hell out of your car afterwards.

I used sea foam many times and never had a problem.
Also i would recommend using it before you change plugs/oil.

also, take out your O2 sensors just in case you have tons of gunk

It's not necessarily mechanical.

Exhaust manifold leak can sound just like what you're describing. If that's the case it's relatiely minor. A shop will fix it with a new gasket for maybe $130 or so total.

try stuffin rags in the exhause to clog it up, just enough that it wont stall out, pop the hood and listen and try to find out where the ticking sound is comming from. the rags would tell u if its the exhaust thats ticking, cuz the preassure will increase causing the tick to be louder.

goodluck

Why would an exhaust manifold start leaking after using seafoam?

Edit: The exhaust manifold gaskets are only like 6 months old.

Loose sparks plugs will make a ticking noise that sounds like an exhaust leak. It could be one just worked itself loose at the same time for no good reason.

The only reason I suggest it is because I experienced a leak first hand. I was SURE that it was mechanical....Heck, the dealer mechanic wanted to replace the engine!! That's another story....But in the end it was just a gasket.

Are you running headers? Bolts will losen over time...even 6 months....Maybe Seafoam could result in a leaking gasket, or just clear out enough grime that an already present leak is opened.

It's just something to look at. If you take it someplace to have it looked at, I'd suggest at least offering it as a possibility. You'll be lucky if that's all it is.

From: that place nobody knows
when did you last change oil?

also, the full SeaFoam tx is to buy 2 cans, let the brake booster line suck 2/3s of a can, throw the rest in the oil, throw 1/3 of the 2nd can into the oil and the rest into the gas tank

sounds crazy, i know

and you gotta use the DeepCreep in the throttle body and change out the oil in 200 miles.

i wouldn't do any high rpm runs during that time either
