scroggins & dickey shortblock??
scroggins & dickey shortblock??
I spun 3 mains and 6 rods after my cam swap
after only 500 miles of driving on a 80k motor.
. I was considering getting this
"This custom short block engine assembly from SDPC features a race prepped LT1 block with Milodon steel splayed center main caps. It also comes with a Lunati 4340 forged crankshaft, Lunati Pro Mod 5.850 rods, SRP forged flat top pistons, JE file-fit rings, Federal mogul race bearings, and is internally balanced"
They offer it at 11.8 or 10.4 comp. ratio. I plan on spraying at least a 250 shot on this thing. The car will see "mostly" steet use, but i drive it to the track at least 3 times a month. Would the 11.8 be to much for pump gas?? I dont mind running some race fuel at the track, but not the street. Also, what bout the rings? Should I run them gapless with the spray or what??
Anyone who has had any "engine" experience with Sgroggins please feel free to chime in...the rotating ***. is 4485$$. I added up the parts that are in the motor and the machine work i would have to have done and it doesnt sound like to bad of a deal to me, I have got to get this thing together before the seasons over, gimmie some advice please!!!
If anybody can recommend another sroker motor co. that is reputable i'm open for some other suggestions also...thankx

SAve yourself some money and check out Golens

The 396 with a callies crank is only $300 more then the above engine. On another note: 11.8 is pushing it on pump gas

The nice thing about the LT1 is the reverse cooling so you can run increased compression on the street. Either ratio should be ok to run, but the 11.8 will require your tune to be a little better than most.
You might also check with some of the vendors on the board. I've heard really good things about Combination's motors, and Brian and Seth are great guys to work with.

I'm considering CM, thats where i got my cam kit and they where VERY proffesional. Hell, they even called me up on my cell bout 2 months after I got the kit to see how it was working, now thats customer service!!
Keep the replies coming please....
If I remember right Scroggins has a pretty good deal.
First their blocks are new, shippping is cheap, and they don't have a core charge. I talked to them about a year ago when I was looking into doing mine.
You can get one done cheaper but probably not with the same parts
rotating assembly 2,000
rings/bearings 200
balance 200
machine work 1,200
assembly 300
clearancing 125
They are within 3-400 dollars and it always cost more than you think. The balance job could end up being $500 easy

I have done a great deal of business with SD over the past ten years and I must say, they are a quality outfit. I can't speak for the other LT1 tuner shops but S&D's shop is top notch. They have the resources to turn out custom builds as well as putting together great crate stuff.
That build is not lacking for quality parts... Lunati makes some of the best stuff out there. You could put together a less expensive setup but this is a good deal for what you're going to do with the spray. I'd stick to the file fit rings too. 11.8 will be fine with the right cam choice. Search the Advanced Tech forum to learn about dynamic compression. The static doesn't mean a whole lot without understanding dynamic.
Good luck.
