I just received mine from scroggin dickeys and it is dual plane. I real;ly want a single so I can spray it. Anyone using a single plane on yours?

I've been watching one take shape for an LT4. It's been on the Bridgeport mill quite a few hours already. Because it started life as a good single plane for a carb, and is getting injector bungs, it's not done yet.

Did you want to use a carb, or 4-bbl TB in place of carb with MFI?

The carb flange is the same height as the top of an LT1/4 manifold.

The one Bret is working on is a Super Vic (not a Vic Jr.) to go with ported LT4 heads. The port match is surprisingly close. The biggest hassle so far is the center mounting bolts: they are very close to the runners. Some welding is required to fill some holes, and remachining for the LT4 mounting bolts. He'd like to make it a bolt-on without having to redrill and tap LT4 heads.

I'll pass this along to Bret. He might be looking for a "beta tester".

Will an 86 an up work? Everyone that has done a carbed setup has used a dual plane? That kind of sucks if so.

I don't see the difficulty in this project.....
Get a single plane intake, use a LT1 gasket as a template and drill the center 4 holes where they need to be. Of course you're gonna need to plug/cover the distributor hole but that should take care of the intake modification.

Most of the good single-planes I've seen have the bolt holes at 90 deg to the head (early SBC). Later heads and LTs of course have the nearly vertical bolts. There isn't a lot of material in the manifold where the angled holes need to go, and it's kinda close on the inners as I mentioned above.

BTW, MG, what manifold did you start with? Bret used an Edelbrock #2925.

Thumbs up

That's right, they are different angles... so that just complicates things a bit. Thanks for the correction Jon.

I haven't really examined the situation (obviously) but has Bret considered maybe welding tabs onto the intake where he needs more material? Assuming it's in one of the scalloped areas of the intake??

For my 15* head swap, Chuck suggested I use a GM 18* lightweight intake, aka the "481". It uses a smaller runner and would be better suited to a head that's been filled-in to just over 220 ccs. Considering the height and hood clearance issues, I opted out on that and went with the LT4 intake, heavily modified to work with the heads, including end rail spacers to make everything fit right.
