I feel like getting one but have a few questions...1 where is the best place to get one...2 i have a 96 so will it read my trouble codes...3 i saw a ls1 one will read them but not the knock retard...4 which should i get with my 96 lt1...thanks guys.

 

The ScanMaster LT1 will only read OBD-I (up to and including 95) trouble codes. Everything else works on the OBD-II (96/97) cars, including the knock retard indication. Not sure if the LS1 version will even work on the LT1 PCM's.

the LS1 version works on the OBD-2 LT1's, but the data rate is somewhat slower due to the obd-2 interface.

This is another reason why the OBD-1 PCM swap is so popular.
