Scanmaster connections

In this pic you can see there are quite a few wires. But on my 94, there is 4. That pic is off of a 96. I've got my Scanmaster in and everything, now just stumped as to what to connect to.

My ALDL connector is as follows:

[ ] [ ] [ ] [ ][*][*][*] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ][*]

the wires are white (black stripe), black (white stripe), black (white stripe), and tan.

How do you know what connection is what? (i.e. #9, #16)

the red goes in the 12 volt(#16)... white is data(#9) and black is ground(#4)

oh sorry i didnt see the wires are completely different colors. if you can figure out what color corrisponds though then what i said still applies.. weird they are so different.

Should be the tan ALDL wire for the scanmaster's white wire.

OK, shoebox's pic helps a ton!

G - Keyless entry (forget about that one)

B - Diagnostic Terminal and
M - Serial Data

M is tan, so I hook up the white ScanMaster wire to it.

A - Ground

What about power?

thanks guys

Just use a test light to find a power wire under the dash, there are plenty there they have power in the accy position, I used a red one. I didnt like using all the ALDL connections for my power and ground because they are harder to access. If you have an alarm, you should have an abundance of power and ground wires to choose from under there.

You would have found the wiring instruction in my ScanMaster writeup.

If you use an HPP, or ever need to connect any other scan device to the ALDL, you will need to have a way to disconnect the white ScanMaster data wire. I put a tiny switch right on the ALDL connector surround.

The data wire I connected into the ALDL connecter (tan wire)

[G] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [M] <-

The power and ground I just took over to the radio. I didn't feel like cutting into many wires under there... It's scary.

Just run the ground to any good ground in the car. I used a battery bar from a hobbie shop and connected the red wire to it and plugged it into the ignition fuse place on the fuse panel. Works great on my friends 94...still waiting to get it into my car.

ibanez6rg did you mount yours in the A/C vent? It took me a while to dremel mine out and it barely fit.

Thats where everyone mounts it. I mounted my buddies in the AC vent. I just cut off the long ends on the vent and then that sucker down. It fits very nice.

Has anyone mounted that in a different place other than the AC vent for a 94-95 Z28?

Yea I put mine in the vent. I used a Dremel and got it to fit in very well. For me that was the easiest part.

Ya clearing the vent wasn't that bad. I just went slow so it wouldn't look like a hack job. The wiring was a pain; not that it was hard to hook up. Just could have used a little more slack in the aldl wires.
