RWHP From Headers

Me and my buddy were arguing about this. on lt1, how much Rear Wheel Horse Power do you normally gain from headers, short and longtube. any dyno charts are appreciated.
I've always heard 22-24 rwhp.

I'll tell you after this weekend when I dyno it. Before the headers my best trap was 100.68 in 1500ft density altitude, and after was 103.62 in 3000ft density altitude, so I think I picked up some good HP.

Here is a dyno chart for short tube headers. I saw several dynos that showed MAC midlengths (like mine) at about 22rwhp and longtubes are even more.

I did a CAI at the same time, but went from 260 to 300. CAI might be worth 7 on the high end I guess. So 30ish rwhp from headers sound good. Longtubes of course. Gains everywhere, with the smallest gain of 13 rwhp at 2200 rpms. Torque picked up 30 at that same rpm. Peak torque went from 300 - 337. Gains of over 50 ft/lbs in the midrange. LTs are the WAY to go.

My shorties picked up my top end dramatically. I thought it wouldn't, but definitely did.

Yeah that's good I guess....but I wouldn't mind an extra 15-20 rwhp

And yeah, my shorties helped throughout the power band, but with this cam I need more.

Thats good to know Axe. I got a 97 also and I'm putting in SLP shorties with my new motor. I didn't go with the longtubes because of my lowering kit I already have clearance issues. I just love the look of the car lowered so i just figure I'd pick up the horses somewhere else.

I just took off the shortys from my 383 Stroker and put on Hooker LTs. WOW!!! Huge difference in power. It felt like a completely different car. I can no longer hook up at all in 1st gear. It does not matter whether I am stopped or already driving in 1st gear. If I hit the gas hard the tires break loose, real loose.

Before with the shortys on I was able to hook up much better but they just did not produce near the power of the Long tubes. I used to hear everyone claim how good the LTs were but I just couldn't believe the difference. I have Stage 3 CNC/P&Pd heads that were being starved for more air with the shortys on. I believe that is why it was such a huge difference for my car. I do not know how much extra HP they have produced but it is a lot.

I am a big believer in LTs now. They are AWESOME!!

My car is lowered also, plus I have longtubes. Check out the pictures in my sig. Ground clearance is reduced but tolerable.

i have a Hot Rod mag from 96 that shows 15-16 rwhp increase from just the K&N CAI on a stock 95 Z28.

if you've seen the crappy airbox on 94-95s you know why

i also read here that each increase in mph trap in our cars requires around 10 hp, so 100 to 103 is about 25-30 hp increase, traction being equal

I gained 24rwhp from headers, but the dyno I went on the 2nd time was more conservative than the first dyno, so I may have gained more.

I gained 44rwhp from mid-length headers (AS&M) but that was with a blower. NA usually gains 20-30rwhp.
