Running SA rockers with guideplates.. can it be done?

My friend is looking to run my old 3/8" Comp ProMag SA rockers I have laying around and was wondering if you can run guideplates with 'em? AFAIK the only difference on the SA rockers are the little "ears" that center 'em onto the valve tips.

Can you just grind these off, or even leave them on without affecting anything?

Can you do it? Yes. Should you do it? No. A real big no. At least that's what Iv'e read many times and if you think about it, it makes sense. The two will be fighting each other simply put. If their going on a stock cam or a small cam you really don't need the guideplates. Anything that is larger than that should be done the right way. NSA with gmpp guideplates.

If it's a SA rocker then just don't use the guide plates.
There is no reason to install them.

You can run both and it won't be a problem as long as you have the right guideplates. Later

Does he already have aftermarket rocker studs with guide plates? If so, why not just remove the guide plates and put head bolt washers under the stud to take up the space where the guide plate was. Or just put some stock rocker studs back in it so that there is nothing to worry about?

Javier,

Please don't do this. The guideplate and the SA rocker will fight to put the PR in the place it wants and end up breaking the PR. You could do it IF both wanted everything running in the same place, problem is they both dont.

just take the guide plates off and use the rockers... no need to have him go out looking for something he doesnt need.

Two reasons SA rockers are bad....

1. 3/8ths studs
2. lock to SA tip interference on some setups (beehives with 10° locks)

Other than that they work great.
