heard some bad things...this is wat ive heard...u should never out taht low of a stat in one due to 1, the colder adds wear on the motor...2the temperature never gets hot enough for the injectors to work correctly..so idk if its tuned and every1 else is then y not...but if every1 was jumpin off a bridge would u??? lol naw j/k but thats some things ive heard bad about a 160 stat...jus my 2 cents

youll be fine with the 160* until you get the correct tune. the 160* stat won't 'wear the motor' either. Just because you have a stat thats 160* doesnt mean that you set your fans to come on right at 160*. I think Ion sets the first fan to come on ~175 and the second ~185-190, I could be wrong though...(of course you have choice on when the fans come on, but he has recommendations)

You don't even need to change anything in the PCM to run a 160° thermostat in an LT1. There is no harm in just throwing it in and driving on. It will cause no issues whatsoever.

Ive had 160's in all my vehicles with no problems at all. This is the first time Ive had my fans programmed to come on earlier. Temp never reaches past 1/4 mark.

A lot of bad info in this post. The LT1 engine is "reverse cooled", so it comes from the factory with a 180deg 'stat, rather than the 196deg that is common with conventional flow cooling. 160degF isn't that much colder than stock. Since the coolant hits the heads first, it continues to pick up heat as it them flows to the lower block. The resulting oil temp isn't a problem.

"2the temperature never gets hot enough for the injectors to work correctly".... say whatttt???? The injectors work fine when the engine is ice cold... why would they be affected by coolant temp. Perhaps you are alluding to the fact that some people fear a 160degF 'stat will leave the coolant too cold to allow the PCM to enter closed loop and adjust the A/F mix based on the O2 sensor feedback. Brappppppppp.... wrong. The LT1 is programmed to enter closed loop with a coolant temp between 120-140degF.

Re: Running a 160 thermo un tuned?

Good Information To Know!.....i've Had The 160* T-stat In My Car For A Long Time And I Was Starting To Get Really Scared. I've Had It In For At 1 1/2 Years And I Have Not Experienced Any Problems Yet
Whatsoever. Its Great Because My Car Never Gets Near The 3/4 Mark So My Oil Pressure Stays Pretty High And Car Runs Great...

Thanks For Your Expertise
