Royal purple in my LT1
Royal purple in my LT1
i recently put some royal purple (10w30) in my 94 Z and have to say that I am pleased with the oil pressure level since the change.
I also used a K&N oil filter ( HP3002 long filter)a nd noticed that when I checked my oil the standard 5Liters did not cover it this time! it seems that the K&N long filter holds quite a bit of oil so I needed allmost 6L of oil.
and last but not least I was disapointed to see that the oil dosen't stay purple! it turns gold.
all in all I am impressed with the oil pressure increase.

I'm happy to hear that. I'm planning on using nothing but Royal Purple in my car. My motor is finally done, and after the break-in, oil changes and stuff, I'll be using their synthetic 10W-30 or their Racing oil 41. I currently have RP on my tranny and differential.
Good stuff.
Good stuff.
When I put Royal Purple in my wife's Honda for the very first time, I ran the engine for 30 seconds, shut it down and checked the oil and it was no longer purple! The color changes very fast. Her engine was very clean inside too, it had only about 40k on it at the time. I've since switched her engine over to something else though.
I highly recommend going with Royal Purple's Racing 41 over their 10w30 or 5w30 though. Those two viscosities tend to thin out and aren't as optimal for the LT1 engine even before they have thinned. Their Racing 41 is like a 10w40 oil and will show much better wear numbers for hard driven engines.
The 10w30 and 5w30 are API approved oils so they have weaker antiwear packages in them than their Racing 41 does. The Racing 41 is still totally safe for street driving, and could easily handle a 6000 mile oil change interval.

Keep an eye on your oil pressure and let me know if you notice it getting lower as you put more miles on this oil.
I also forgot to mention, I find it odd that you need to add 6L of oil with the long K&N. I run this filter too, and only need to add 5L to show full on my dipstick. And I even let my oil drain for a good long time (2 hours) before I finish up my oil change, so it lets out quite a bit of the old oil (you'll never get all of it out though, since at least a 1/2 to a full quart gets trapped in various parts of the engine, such as the oil pump, the heads, etc.)

I let mine drain for about a 1/2 hour and it took about 5.5-5.6 L's to get the oil where it normally is with 5L's, trust me I too found it very strange.
I'll keep my eye on the pressure as miles go on and let you know what happens.

when i was playing around with motor oils i found out from Royal Purple that their street line is NOT fully synthetic, their racing line, including Racing 41 IS fully synthetic (hence the 4.99 vs. 7.99 price tag!)
I tried Racing 41 but was not very happy with it for the price.... so i switched back to M1.... give it a try see if you like it :-) btw, yes I was disappointed with the color changing to orange immediately too!
