Here is some information as to what the GM Performance division is going to be showing off this weekend at Woodward:
WARREN : GM's new Performance Division will unveil two partnership show
vehicles at the 2002 Woodward Dream Cruise that symbolize the heritage of
the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 and Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. Created solely for
show purposes, the entire project was completed in just eight weeks with
parts donated by GM Powertrain, GM Performance Parts, and GM Design Center.
"This venture truly epitomizes the wonderful relationship that will
continue to flourish as a symbol of GM divisional cooperation on future
projects and will serve as a great send off for the exciting 35-year
heritage of both the Camaro and Firebird," said Mark Reuss, GM's Executive
Director for Performance Division. "We wanted to start building employee
enthusiasm with our division partners and I think these were two perfect
cars to help achieve that goal."
The GM Performance Division 2003 Z/28 emulates the 1960s and 70s
Penske-Sonoco stock TransAm race team vehicles. Complete with a classic
high dome cowl induction hood, egg crate grill, aggressive front fascia,
and a rear spoiler. The dark metallic blue exterior and yellow graphics
make for a visually striking appearance and the 427 c.i., C5R, aluminum,
race motor pumps out 600 horsepower. It is mated with a six-speed manual
transmission. The fenders are modified to accommodate the 315/30/18 tires
in the front and 335/30/18s in the rear. The interior has the look and feel
of a race car where the midnight black upholstery contrasts a bright
yellow, full roll cage. The bucket seats are equipped with a five-point
harness and the instrument cluster has oversized racing gauges and carbon
fiber throughout.
The GM Performance Division 2003 TransAm is reminiscent of the 1970-71
original production Pontiac Firebird TransAm. This vehicle is a modern
interpretation of the classic, with a white exterior accented with blue
racing stripes and classic shaker hood. The front and rear spoilers were
modified to mimic the original muscle car along with front and rear wheel
aero spats. The interior appointments come complete with all the amenities
of the original and include a Hurst shifter, perforated heliocone blue
leather seats and a DNA white perforated leather headliner. The steering
wheel is also leather wrapped in blue to match. The 427 c.i. powerplant,
matched with an automatic transmission, supplies 455 horses to the
285/30/ZR20 inch rear tires. The front wheels are fitted with 265/30/19
high performance tires.

Just pasting my thread on this from LS1TECH. As Harlan mentioned about the Katech piece you can see how I put 2 and 2 together, not too tough. BTW, Harlan that's an awesome ride you guys put together! Can you comment on where the intake came from??
First things first, how does it sound??? Well, this is going to do it no justice, but I did have to bow down both on the street and at the pavillion. I apologize ahead of time about the video quality, I just got this camera yesterday so I don't know all the features yet. It looks like I took the video at the lowest setting. It still should be good.
C5R Camaro
C5R Trans Am
In the second video you can hear me ask one of the specialty vehicles guy (he's got a sweet job by the way!) if they are going to bring the cars to M7. He started to say that the cars are expensive one off's. I told him they don't have to race them, just bring them. We'll see what happens, but the other one off's make it to the track and put on a show so I want to see some from these two!!
Now for some teaser pic's. These are gonna be BIG! Wouldn't want to spoil the quality for disk space! As soon as I figure out how to host the rest of them I will post more. Whether I zip up all the files or not I still have 30 megabytes worth of pictures!!! I'm going to figure out how to pare that down some.

Now the details. I'll start with the little I found out about the Trans Am. First off, it's not a Trans Am, it's a Formula that was just sitting around. Actually, both cars were just sitting around as they put it and they did these build ups in a little under 2 months. They put some body cladding and a hood on it with some paint. They only did some mild work to it and put a C5R into it. The interior is dyed a rather weird looking blue and it's blue everywhere inside the car. Not much else was really done. It's fairly basic. They put all of their eggs into the Camaro's basket though, which was very well deserving.
The Camaro is simply mean looking. The fender flares are as stretched and as perfect as they could get. Under the car is the normal adjustable LCA and Panhard setup most of us have, 12 Bolt from DTS (Drive Train Specialists) and boxed subframe connectors. The front control arms have been tweaked and shortened to get the right camber and stance out of it. It's been lowered substantially (didn't check if it was full coil over on all corners, but I doubt that). The interior is completely gutted. It's a full up race car interior with switches and gages as well as the full cage (nice looking cage too!). No key for the ignition, I did think about it for a second, but I probably wouldn't have got far if I fired it up, sorry. The Tremec 6 speed is used in the car, but they've upgraded it to a race setup. Better gears and parts mostly, you all can look into that further if you haven't already.
The motor is the C5R, most likely right off the shelf from Katech. It had the Katech tensioner, valve covers, etc. The GM guys were even touting the $27k price tag, which coincidentally is the same price Katech charges for a fully assembled C5R. It's a dry sump setup and the oil circulator is behind the passenger seat attached to the roll cage. The exhaust is a normal header running down to a collector of some kind. The car was so low I couldn't even see the collector, but it all gets shot out the side exit pipe on the passenger side. The intake though was quite the surprise. I was pretty impressed to see it, however the gasket looked like it was made out of wood paneling or something. I have a good shot of it in these two pictures:
Full Intake
Gasket that looks like a piece of paneling!!
I will try and figure out how to host the rest of the pictures, but this should soil your pants for a while!!

I'm not exactly sure where that manifold came from, but my understanding is that is was on a shelf somewhere and they wanted to use it. It was originally designed to fit production heads, but the camaro had C5R heads and block. Thus the manifold spacers.
I'm not really sure where the cars will end up, but I can surely drop a hint at work about them making an appearance at a BIG GM/F body event comeing soon

no promises, but i can suggest
Some details i do know, camaro has a race T-56 prepped by Tremec. Straight cut 1-4 gears with viper shafts, and it hauls some serious ***
Dynatech 1 7/8" steps, open into a side exit collector. 1LE suspension components with Peske shocks and I think Eibach springs.TA has a prepped 4L60 done by the GM trans folks in Ypsilati. Yank converter
. BMR suspension.
All the body work, custom wings/spoilers/facia's where all in house GM custom glass fab work. All paint work was in the GM paint shop.
Very impressive work on the part of all involved.
I'm just happy i got to be part of it
