Road trip Suggestions

Re: Road trip Suggestions
Preparing for a road trip in an LT1 is just like preparing for a road trip in any other car. Check tire pressure, change/check/top off fluids, bring a small road tool kit just in case, etc.
Of course it completely depends on what kind of condition the car you're taking is in. You can't anticipate what problems might arise in a 15-year old V8 sports car.
Having said that, AAA is good to have.

Keep an eye on the fuel level gauge. If your gauge is like everyone else's, when you hit 1/4 tank, you are just about out, and may be too far from the next gas station. Running out may damage the fuel pump. Don't take a chance on running it low on fuel.
You might also want to add a "Signature" with basic info about your car - year, model, engine, trans and any major mods.

Gallon of Antifreeze. Small "bug out bag" JUST in case. LOTS of music. Which route you taking? I used to drive Semi and familiar with the corridors.
Best thing you could do though is add Triple A mainly for the trip cause you never know.

I just drove mine from central Oregon, down to AZ. Lots of good advice, especially the fuel guage!! I averaged just about 25-26 mpg the whole way, too!! Didn't really need to shift out of 6th too much, except to pass!!

Re: Road trip Suggestions
Brought my Formula back from Dallas this past February after buying it back. Keep fuel at or above 1/2 tank. You can got to Sears and buy the plastic case multi tool kit where everything is in its little snap in spot. When you buy it get it in a large sears bag then go home and staple the bag shut with the receipt. Put it in the trunk and if you never need it then take it back when you get there and get money back since it is unused. Works well when flying in somewhere especially, I did it when I got to Dallas, returned it here when I got back, no hassles. Also consider going to a U Pull It junk yard and getting an extra spare out of a salvage F body and wash it real good and put it in the rear just in case. You never know and it doesnt take alot of room. And have fun, take lots of pics on the road. Road trips in these cars are fun, they are like old freinds.
