The Right oil pump.

I'm trying to find the right oil pump to put in my LT1, I have a stock motor with a stock pan. Assuming it had standard clearances i'm looking at the Melling 10554, But I see everyone using these with high pressure springs?

Is the stock pump a high pressure/standard volume pump or what?
I wouldn't think it needed to be high volume or pressure if the clearances are right, but I can't find the right answer.

A stock pump is fine in a stock motor.

The 10554 with a white spring is a good choice. A stock pump is standard volume. The additional pressure from the white spring is a little insurance.

not trying to high jack a thread but will this help prevent the classic rod bearing problems the lt1 is known for?

These things are 12+years old. You know how many stretch cycles there are on the rods/bolts?

That said you now how many cycles the oil pump pressure spring has on it? IMO a higher pressure spring in a stock pump is a good thing BUT more because it is replacing a weak old one than because it is high pressure.
