reverse lockout selenoid and coolant fans
reverse lockout selenoid and coolant fans
I did a search on this but could not quite find an exact answer:
I can start my car, sitting still idling, with a new 10A coolant fan fuse and it will run fine. Fans will turn on at 180 and everything, just like they're supposed to. However, if I back up and then start driving somewhere, at some point during that drive the coolant fan fuse will blow. I should say that putting the tranny in reverse is quite difficult, and I know the reverse lockout selenoid is on the 10A fuse the fans are on...so is this my problem? What exactly is going on to blow the fuse? How would I make sure it's the selenoid? And finally, do I just replace the selenoid or trace wires to it and such?
I changed out my Coolant Fan #1 relay with fog lights and that is perfectly fine. I haven't checked the other two Fan relays but the problem really sounds more like a selenoid thing.
THANKS! And Injuneer, if this is the billionth post you've seen about coolant fans and their fuse, I'm sorry!

Re: reverse lockout selenoid and coolant fans
Something is overloading the circuit... could be your skip shift solenoid (or a shorted skip shift eliminator if you have one). The fan relay, reverse lockout, skip shift solenoid, EEC purge solenoid, EGR vacuum solenoid are all on Fuse #6, according to the 95 wiring diagrams on Shoebox's website.
One of those devices is blowing the fuse when it operates, and the skip shift, EEC purge and EGR vacuum solenoids will only activate at random times when you are driving.
