Melling Select 10554 pump (std vol/std pressure 3/4" inlet).
GM white spring 3848911 for higher pressure.
GM pickup tube, 12550042.

This looks like a good combo, Any other gaskets recommended or just stick with the one piece Fel-Pro?

$42 bucks seems a bit steep for an oil pan gasket. Thanks!

Just an additional question....the Melling M155 is the "Melling" version of the stock pump correct? The "Select" series has the better housing......correct?

I didn't install it dry though....I used the right stuff on the factory recommended places and have not had a problem.

Damn... Im lookin at $151 bucks for the Pump, spring, pickup tube and retainer bracket, gasket and sealant. I guess thats not too bad, but so far the cheapest quote I got just for the labor on dropping the pan is 200 dollars , and hell I just looked at a cherry picker for around $130. Trying to decide if its worth it or should I do it myself. How about on a scale of 1-10 how difficult is the task and about how long should it take?

Why do you want to replace the stock pump?

I might put a $3 white spring in it and a $7 metal driveshaft otherwise the stock pump is pretty good.
Biggest reason I have done the spring is to replace the decade plus old original one that may be fatigued a bit after countless heat cycles. No chance of screwing up the pickup tube installation, no chance of a weak aftermarket casting. Simple, cheap and effective leaving you money to spend somewhere it will do some good.

I like the Felpro "conversion gasket" kit, contains more than the pan gasket kit so you have about everything for the bottom half onhand if you find something else in need of replacement.

my pickup tube fell off, and it looks like im going to have to pay $200 to drop the pan so I might as well change out the pump if I'm paying that much for a mechanic to just put the pickup tube and bracket on..

Why did the tube fall out? Was it a poorl;y done replacement already? Was it detonation? Unlikely that after 14 years of good service it would fall out for no reason.

Pick Up Tube Retainer

I highly recommend the use of a pick up tube retainer to prevent any future problems with the tube coming out of the pump. I have enclosed a link to the retainer you need.

The Melling 10554 is basically a stock pump with a better body casting. Melling changed their design (some time back-there were lots of threads about it all over the internet) of the regular pump making it weaker and prone to cracking when used in high performance applications. Melling makes the GM pump and the change was made at GMs request. No, they did not request a weaker pump, but the design changes they wanted resulted in such.
I previously recommended the stock pump until the change.
