Replace cap and rotor or entire opti?

Finally had the time to get underneath the car and check everything out. The opti is soaking wet from coolant getting on it, theres a leak coming from around the wp that I still have to find. I've been having backfiring issues with the car only when the rpms are dropping and I've let off the gas. The car seems to hesitate a bit when I first gas it from idle. Seems to idle a bit low once warmed up. I'm not getting any codes thrown at me with the scanner. All wires and plugs are good.

So, replace the entire opti? Or just the cap and rotor?

If no codes, you could probably get by with cap and rotor.

i agree with shoebox, bt you should alos probably get another water pump or findout where your leak is coming from before you do anythng... or else you will be just wasting money

Re: Replace cap and rotor or entire opti?

You might want to add the year of your car/engine to your "signature". The type of Opti you have would affect my recommendation. An original unvented Opti (93/94) would be a candidate for complete replacement (heavy rust, worn bearing, dirt in the optical sensor), while an original vented unit (95-97) would be less likely to need complete replacement.

In any case, pull the cap off and see if its ugly inside.
