Find another dealer to take your car to if you feel you absolutely must take it to a dealer. They are taking you for a ride. I think you should listen to the people on this board more and the dealer less. The people on this board are trying to help you...the dealer is trying to clean you out of some serious cash.

Re: Repairs that need to be done to my car...

that is why i came here

the thing is, i brought it to the dealer to diagnose the problems i have, not to necessarily fix. i was NOT expecting the transmission to be shot....

the tune up, i can do,t he transmission mount i can do most likely. when i get the car back tomorrow, i'm gonna jack it up, and look under there. i'm gonna get a poly transmission mount as well. the electrical problem i know i can not fix. and the brakes in the front, i know i can't either cause i dono't have the tools.

Also about your transmission, if it had a hole trans fluid would leak out at a pretty good rate, it wouldnt just let dirt in! Holes dont just appear in a case they are their from day 1 or it takes liek 20 years of living in salt to eat away enough metal (maybe) to make a hole in the case. YOU DONT NEED A TRANSMISSION! You would have LONG SINCE ran out of fluid if it had a hole in it!

On to the oil pump. Did your oil pressure ever drop down to near 0 when idleing? Or go under about half way while cruising? If it did it probably needs new bearings. Pump wouldnt help. Ask them EXACTLY what is wrong with the oil pump. I would LOVE to hear whats wrong. Also ask em to specifically tell you how they diagnosed it. Again YOU DO NOT NEED ONE!!!! Thats a HUGE labor charge and i gaurentee you dont need it. If you did youd also need a new engine right now.

Take it to another shop!!!!!

i agree...

you know what the funny thing is that i just realized...when i brought my car into car max a while ago to fix this electrical problem, the transmission was fine, no holes or anything...you would think they would have seen a hole forming, and a hole just doesn't happen in a day like that. and to answre the questio about the oil pump, my car has gone SLIGHTLY under half way while cruising, nothing major. they said i have a hole in the case that holds my transmission, and a guy from AAMCO said the transfer case.

Re: Repairs that need to be done to my car...

I could make a whole nother thread on why to stay away from AAMCO! Quick example is my dumb ex went in for an engine miss (why she went to aamco a trans shop still blows my mind) but they robbed her for 600 bux for 4 new trans mounts on a 97 intrepid (is there even 4 in there?) and to clear her check engine light. 600 Bux later shes spazing and the cars still not fixed. But anyway. Forget about a new trans. Get a new poly trans mount (autozone usually stocks them) and put it in itll take 20 minutes. Easy as changing an air filter! Except you gotta jack the car up. You will feel lil more vibration after its in there though. But on a car liek this a lil vibration is better then a new motor mount every 6 months. Or if you wnat you can look at getting a stock LS1 trans mount at the dealer. I hear they are better at keeping vibration down and dont split like the LT1 mounts do every 6 months or so. Front brakes arent too hard either. Basic ratchet set and a 5 dollar c-clamp from the hardware store and its done. Pretty much everything i saw ion your list im sure you could do yourself wityh a lil guidance from the people on here. You will save HUNDREDS if you do it yoruself. Trust me these cars are easy to work on, other then being harder to get at some parts its still a basic rear wheel drive v-8. You sound like you could takle this whole project. We beleive in you man!

Sorry the dealer was jerking you around i understand your frustratiuon been there back in the day befor ei learned to do stuff myself. Youll be ok and so will the car and youll be alot happier knowing you did it and it was done right. Then you can spend the $ on beer n hookers afterwards to celebrate.

Re: Repairs that need to be done to my car...

thanks man

my mom already told the dealer to do the brakes, so thatis out of my reach same with the electrical problem. i KNOW to get poly trans mounts!!! the fact is, i can't seem to find any that fit my car, not sure if i ahve an autozone around here, i'll take a look. is there a specific part number someone can give me so i can check this out?

even if there WAS a hole in the CASE that covers the tranny, wouldnt there still be leakage? i have had ZERO leakage.

Dealers have to make money, I think this is how they do it!
