Question Removing Transmission Lines? Help!

Hey there once again guys. New issue to tackle:

So I'm changing out my starter with a new one, and as most of you probably know, the LT1 engines are really a pain in the #$% to work with. When it comes to the starter, there are two transmission metal lines running underneath of it along with the Y pipe for the exhaust that prevent just dropping the starter right out. I've heard on this forum that it's possible to remove the bell housing and unhook the transmission lines at either the radiator or the transmission to get the starter out. I'm going to go with that route. So.........

I've never removed a transmission line before, and I know there's got to be something inside (surprise! ). Do you need to drain the tranny fluid first? Or can I just unplug the tranny lines at the radiator and seal off the ends while I work? Also, is the system like the radiator system and you need to bleed air out, or can I just plug the lines back in and be done afterward? Any help would be spectacular!

Here's a picture of the starter/tranny line: http://i337.photobucket.com/albums/n...z28starter.jpg

u dont need to drain the trans to remove the lines, but expect some oil to drip out thats all. and when ur done just put the lines back on and top up the trans oil as required,
have u tried to remove the y-pipe instead of the trans cooling lines? from the pic i believe that might give u more access to the starter!

I did, but the mounting bolts are stuck pretty bad. They would allow quite a bit more access, but I would rather just try to squeeze the starter out between the bell housing and tranny lines.

Out of curiosity, then, should I unhook the tranny lines at the tranny or radiator? I imagine if I unhook them at the tranny, they'll be more mess.

If you try and pull the Y-pipe, its almost guaranteed you'll break a couple bolts off.

Yeah, I figured. It makes me real nervous. So as far as removing the tranny lines go, though. Do I need to drain the radiator (I already know the tranny doesn't have to be) and should I unhook them at the radiator or the tranny itself? Any tips, hints, comments? I could definitely use some help right now. Thanks!

i guess trans side is where u need to unhook, but u might also need to unbolt the holder bracket thats holding the lines to the side of the oil pan

Will stuff pour out of the trans if I unhook it from there? Thanks!
