Removing an LT1/trans from the bottom

Hey guys. I'm planning on starting this weekend on removing my old drivetrain.

Is there a writeup out there on how this is done? I searched and every URL I came up with was bad.
If not I guess I can fudge it but I figured it would be much easier if I didn't have to guess.

Thanks guys.

Here's one write-up.

Disclaimer: I've never done it.

Thansk That will be helpful.

I liked the jackstands idea.

I was hoping for a shoebox style writeup but I'll take what I can get.

This write up was made by another member here and was extremely helpful in getting me prepared for the pull.

I didn't know I had a style.

I've done it, but did not make a write-up. I lowered mine out with a floor jack and left the wheels/tires on. Put a floor jack under the trans and wheeled it out. No fabrication of anything extra was done.
That's what I did on New Year's Eve one year.

Thanks guys.

I'm releived to see that people have done it with low garage ceilings. Mine can't be more than 7-8 feet and I was worried about lifting it high enough.

This one's pretty good.... don't know if it has enough "style" though

Okay guys. I was doing some reading and saw a picture of it being done without raising the rear wheels. I am running duals dumped at the axle. If I remove the exhaust beforehand will we be able to do it without putting the rear on tires and just chocking the rear wheels?

Also would you guys recommend the cherry picker? Or using a chain pull attached to rafters.
My buddies seem pretty adament about the chain pull idea, and I am all for using the cherry picker.

I've done it a few times and prefer the chain fall method because it frees up floor space and just feels safer to me. I put jack stands underneath when raising for extra safety, never trust one method alone. Also, remove your oil pressure sensor before or you will most likely will break it off learned that the hard way. First time I did it I went in blind and did it my self in about four hours.
