Removing the crankshaft hub.
Removing the crankshaft hub.
How can I get the hub off the crankshaft? I got the pulley off with no problem, but I have to take the timing cover off so I have to get the hub off. I would imagine theres a special tool to get it off, if so where can I get one?
Re: Removing the crankshaft hub.
How did you get it off with a crows foot? Thats what I've been trying with no success. I just seen that the instruction mention a special tool, Kent-Moore tool j-39046. Anyone have any experience with this tool or have any idea of how much it is or if theres anything similar to it?

just did mine this week, go to discount auto and they have an am-pro 3 jaw puller 4" and get a bolt that will fit in the hole where the old one cam out of but longer and use that to push against, it doesnt have to thread, mine didnt i just picked a longer strong bolt out of my draw of bolts
Re: Removing the crankshaft hub.
crows foot/steering wheel puler turned backwards, had to get longer bolts to stick through the pulley holes. then i put the crank bolt back in but only threaded it in half way and tourqued on it with a breaker bar to get it loose.
Re: Removing the crankshaft hub.
You also need to make sure that you leave the crank bolt installed part of the way in. The hub is stepped on the front and if you do not have anything in there, you are pulling the hub against the hub itself. There are millions of posts on here about the same thing with better write ups

Re: Removing the crankshaft hub.
Like above you need ot leave your bolt in. My stock bolt wasn't long enough to get the hub off completely, i bought a grade 8 bolt that was about 1 inch longer from Ace hardware and i always use that to pull the hub off. So leave the bolt threaded in a couple of turns (so you don't ruin any threads), then bolt up your hub/steering wheel puller to the hub and pull it off by pushing against the center bolt.
