Removing the Cat
Removing the Cat
The other day I noticed rattling in my exhaust. It turns out that the baffles in my cat are loose. So basically I need to replace the cat, or just take it off completly. I can get away with removing it, so is it worth it? Will I notice a HP gain and will i have enough back pressure?
I would rather gut the cat. Because if for any reason you need to take it to the shop they may give you hell for not being up on your emissions. If the cat is on there that is a differant story. They will just tell you it needs to be replaced. You are just safer having gutted cats that all.
The simulator just tricks the computer so the ANNOYING SES light won't come on. You need that light to come on when you have a problem. If it is on just because your cats are gutted or removed then you won't know if you really have a problem.
i SAY REMOVE THE CAT IF YOUR NOT WORRIED ABOUT PASSING INSPECTION OR ANYTHING. MY 95 HAD THE SINGLE CAT AND i HAD IT REMOVED NO PROBLEMS WITH ANY LIGHTS. AWESOME EXHAUST TONE WITH FACTORY MUFFLER! AND THERE SHOULDNT BE ANY O2 SENSORS BEHIND THE CAT UNLESS THE 94 IS DIFFERENT FROM THE 95. SO NO PROBLEMS WITH SES LIGHTS. i SAY A GOOD CHEAP EFFECTIVE MOD.
OBD1 cars did not have rear o2's, so gutting the cat won't trip any lights, it will just spew out more nasty stuff out the exhaust. And it is not recommended to replace the front o2 w/ a simm, it'll just make your ecm think you have a perfect a/f ratio and could run slightly lean or rich depending on conditions.
