Removing the battery tray/coolant overflow container

I just finished relocating my battery to the trunk and was looking at removing the ugly battery tray/coolant overflow container. I got it out easy but for those who removed it what did you put in it's place? I thought about just sticking some sort of small container down in the hole left there and securing it with some zip ties, just looking for some good ideas and what's required for it to pass a tech inspection.

Go to Home Depot, get a nice flat plate of aluminum, cut it a little over the size of the opening, and pop rivet it in!

Will look cool!

That sounds like a good idea for covering up the hole left but what about a container for the coolant overflow? Is there a certain size or type of container required to pass an NHRA track inspection or can I just use any sort of plastic container?

You have to have a "catch can" to pass tech, and as a courtesy to other racers.

JEG's and Summit sell lightweight plastic and aluminum catch cans. If you are locating it below the radiator overflow level (most likely), you will need one with an internal tube, or a bottom connection that allows the radiator to pull coolant back into the radiator as it cools off. Or else you will need to top off the radiator after each use - not a good idea with the LT1.

That's right, I forgot what they were called. I just checked them out at Summit, they range from around $50-$100, I'll go with one of those. Thanks Fred.

All you need is one of the JAZ plastic ones... $19 at JEG's. I have one, but haven't installed it yet.

I just checked them out, they are 4"x10 3/4" that sounds like it would fit in that hole, I'll have to check tonight. I really didnt care about a real nice aluminum one since I want to hide it in the hole anyway and $19 sounds much more like it to me.
