Removable tube on Hooker LTs?

I was just wondering why the number one primary tube comes apart on the Hooker LTs when you have to remove the steering linkage anyway? I have not done this yet but I assumed that since the primary came off you would not have to remove the steering linkage but all the writeups on other peoples websites say to take apart the steering.
I am confused, as usual.

I did not have to remove the steering linkage when I installed my longtubes.

I have no idea why they make that a slip fit...
I pulled my steering linkage out and left the slip pipe off so I could every so ever so gently get the header in place to be bolted up...(I'm being sarcastic, I really got frustrated and pulled everything apart after I broke the water temp sensor)
But its nice that they did that regardless to have more room to work with because you need all the room you can get...
