I don't see why you shouldn't be able to.

good question, i was wondering the same thing. I'm going with no, unless you find a way to disable that neutral safety switch thing. Then it might be possible!

and you'd have to park it in neutral. which wouldnt work for me because i always park it in first because i dont want to wear out my emergency brake

At the local car audio/performance shop I hang out at they are able to install this system on manual transmisson cars:

http://www.electronixwarehouse.com/c...ur/al2000e.htm

It's a good system, I had one on my old car (Automatic V8 Ford T-Bird) and I really liked it.

They are normally not installed on a manual transmission car, because you are supposed to park the car with it in gear. If you were to forget to leave it in neutral and used the remote start, the car would eventually crash into something. I would never leave my car parked with only the parking brake on and not in gear.

You aren't serious about that, are you?

There's no "neutral safety switch" on the M6, there's a switch that detects the clutch pedal position and prevents it from starting unless the pedal is on the floor.

I knew a few people that have done it but they do the inevitable... leave the car in gear and try the remote start. Car jumps into something usually. I thought about this once.

Dont do it. Money better spent elsewhere.

The guy who had my '96 Z28 before me installed it. As the other guys have said just make sure you always leave the car in neutral and have the e-brake up. My buddies and I were wondering one night what would happen if we tried starting the car up with it in gear (me in the car and in a open parking lot of course). Well... the car cranked over and actually started up and idled in gear for about 4 seconds! Once the '96 is done with daily driver status the remote start is the first thing I am removing.

I know that systems exist that require you to enter 'remote start mode' which is done by applying the e-brake, getting out of the car (engine still running), hitting the lock button on the fob, then hitting the remote start button on the fob which will turn the car off. It will not start if you unlock the car.

So basically it knows that its not in gear since you got out of the car with it still running and shut it off from outside of the car.
