reluctor ring/gear install question

I have a 96 Formula with 2.73 gears. The car has ABS and TCS, so I assume it has 4 channel ABS.

I purchased a used 3.42 ring and pinion gear set (low mileage)

I also purchased a 3 series differential.

I know I need a gear install kit, but do I also need to track down a reluctor ring?

I would think if the car has 4 channel ABS, that the rear wheen speed sensors are at/near the wheels, so that would negate the need for the reluctor ring..But I'm not sure.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

If your current gear is a 2.73 then you should have a series 2 carrier in your rearend. In this case since you are upgrading to a series 3 carrier you will need a new reluctor gear designed for a series 3 carrier.

It is part of your antilock brake system. No reluctor ring: no ABS worky.

Someone told me that because my car has traction control (TCS), it has 4 channel ABS and doesn't need the reluctor ring.

If they're wong, it's cool, I can order one before I do the install.

Yes.... TCS is 4-channel, and 4-channel has a small reluctor ring on the end of each axle, and a sensor on the hub. Non-TCS is 3-channel, and 3-channel has only a single reluctor wheel on the rear axle, mounted on the differential carrier.

So if mine is 4-channel and has small reluctor rings on the end of each axle, do I need to purchase none, or two, reluctor rings?

SLP only shows one reluctor ring part number on their site.

Injuneer, you make it sound as though I don't need to replace it/them because they're on the axle and not the carrier.

No reluctor on the carrier is shown in the parts book for the TCS equipped car. The reluctor looks like it is part of the axle. I don't even see a separate part number for one.

Sweet, thanks!

No reluctor means $20 toward some other mod!
