Relocation of ABS.

Happy New Year!

I had purchased a Vortech supercharger system from a member of a Camaro message board back in August. I have finally found some time to install it. The seller told me it came off of a camaro. The supercharger says V-1 on it and does not seem to fit due to the ABS unit on the drivers side frame rail. I have found many kits to delete the ABS unit that include a proportioning valve and such.

I do not want to delete my ABS system as this car is still a cruiser.

If the ABS system was relocated the supercharger would fit perfectly between the block and the frame rail. I thought a good place for relocation would be where the stock airbox was located since I am not using that system any longer.

I find it amazing that Vortech makes no mention of this issue - I do have a V-1 super and the install manual he sent was for a V-2... so I am not sure if vortech is to blame here.

Please let me know if there are any kits made to do this or am I just going to have to extend all the electrical and brake lines to move the unit.

Thank you for any input.

Brad

The V-1 can be re-clocked to clear the ABS module. The S-trim and T-trim both clear, you wont run into clearance issues until you step up the the V-7 YSi.

A buddy of mine with a 97 SS convertible went through a whole series of Vortech blowers, in ever increasing sizes, with the ABS unit still in its stock location. You might want to repost this on the "Forced Induction" forum, to see what other Vortech users have done.

What does re-clocking mean?

There are 6 allen headed screws that attach 3 "clamping" plates. This is what holds the compressor housing to the body of the gearbox. By loosening those 6 screws, you can rotate the housing to clear the abs. Kind of a PITA though, because you have to do it a lil bit at a time, and it cant be done while on the car, so you have to install it, check it, then remove it , adjust the clocking, then reinstall it until you have it right. BE CAREFUL when tightening those screws, as they can be easily stripped out, 10-12 lft lbs. Hope this helps.

I will look at the head unit - I don't quite understand how turning things will make 5 inches become the needed 7 inches but it is certainly worth the look! Thank you very much for the information - I really do not want to move the ABS.
Thanks again.
