Rebuild/low oil pressure
Rebuild/low oil pressure
I've had this dreaded miss for weeks now. Still got it, replaced everything electrical except for the ignition module. Today I replaced my o2 sensors, and it took it out for a drive. It went about 5 blocks, and it stalled. I started it back up, went to the next stop light a few more blocks, and it started to die again. I look at the oil pressure at idle, and it was barely above the red tick. I give the car a few revs and the oil pressure stays right between 30-40. At idle it will drop back to right above the red mark. But it only drops whe warmed up. Cold, idle, I get oil pressure between 30-40, closer to 40. I can hear an intermittent small faint knock. It is not consistant. Can only hear it at idle. But the oil pressure thing concerns me. So I am goin to start to pull the motor (107,000 miles) this friday (6-24-05).
The car still has to be streetable, I don't want to do a 383. The only way I'd consider a deal on a 383/396 would be if I got an incredible deal on parts. I don't need/want all that extra torque. I don't have the $$$ to match the heads either. So for now I am going to stick with my hot cam/home ported heads. I already have a NX wet kit. So that is going to factor in the plan.
Eventually I want a supercharger or run a 175 shot with an ocassional 200 shot. But in any case, I am not going to run a bigger shot than 125 till I get a rear end for it. Which isn't going to be till the mid future. So I want to build this thing right, but I can't do everything all at once. This will be a multi-step program. Bottom end first. Rear end next. Top end after that. Then last will be a super charger. This is what I want.
Thanks for listening and advice:

Change your oil & filter and put in 20/50 dino and see if it will come back up. Sounds like oil to thin or a piece of trash(1 grain of sand or a metal flake) in the pressure relief of the oil pump.
Delay the rebuild if ya can.
